Bella Vista Washed

Grade SHB EP

Costa Rica Bella Vista Washed is a specialty green coffee produced and processed at Bella Vista Estate in Tres Ríos, one of Costa Rica's most historic coffee-growing regions. This SHB washed Caturra and Catuai is grown at 1,400 masl where volcanic soils, shade-grown cultivation, and weather conditions produce the balanced, sweet profile that has made Tres Rios a recognized region among specialty coffee roasters. Family-owned since the early 1900s, the Vessel family has spent more than a century cultivating and processing coffee entirely at origin.

In the cup, Bella Vista Washed presents notes of brown sugar, honey, caramel, vanilla, cocoa, panela, and milk chocolate. Expect balanced acidity,a smooth body and a clean sweet finish that makes this coffee well suited as a single origin or as the foundation of an espresso blend.

Available in very small quantities, this Costa Rican green coffee is well suited for specialty coffee roasters seeking traceable washed Costa Rican coffee with classic sweetness, balance, and the distinctive character that has made Tres Ríos one of the country's most celebrated coffee-growing regions.

This is unroasted coffee ready to be roasted at home or your local roastery.

What is so special about this coffee?

One of the things that stands out at Bella Vista Mill is that the entire process happens on-site. The Vessel family oversees everything from cultivating under shade to selective harvesting, eco-friendly milling, sun drying and preparing the coffee for export. This integrated production model allows consistency, traceability, and quality roasters can count on every  harvest.

The Bella Vista Mill is located in Tres Ríos, one of Costa Rica's oldest and most respected coffee-growing regions. For more than a century, Bella Vista has cultivated coffee in an area known for its volcanic soils, defined wet and dry seasons, and long tradition of producing balanced, washed coffees. The result is a coffee that reflects both the history of the region and the continuity of a family dedicated to coffee production across generations.

Bella Vista Estate: More Than a Century of Coffee Tradition

For more than a century, the Bella Vista Mill has remained dedicated to producing coffee within the same landscape where the family's coffee business first began. As coffee production in Costa Rica evolved, the estate continued refining its approach while remaining closely connected to the traditions that established Tres Ríos as one of the country's benchmark origins. This continuity has allowed knowledge and experience to accumulate across generations rather than being rebuilt with every harvest.

Today, Bella Vista continues to produce coffees that reflect a balance between tradition and careful production. Rather than pursuing constant change, the estate focuses on preserving the qualities that have long distinguished coffees from Tres Ríos, demonstrating how consistency can be achieved through experience, careful decision-making, and long-term stewardship of the farm.

The Land Behind Bella Vista Coffees

The reputation of Tres Ríos has been shaped by the interaction of volcanic soils, mountain elevations, and well-defined wet and dry seasons. These natural conditions create an environment where coffee cherries develop gradually before harvest, contributing to the balance and elegance that have become closely associated with the region.

Over generations, this landscape has helped establish Tres Ríos as one of Costa Rica's classic coffee origins. Rather than producing coffees defined by intensity alone, the region has become known for profiles where sweetness, acidity, and structure remain in harmony, giving coffees from Tres Ríos an identity that continues to be recognized by specialty coffee roasters around the world.
