Grade SHB EP
Discover Entre Rios Fully Washed Green Coffee from Aquiares Estate in Turrialba, Costa Rica. Produced from a blend of Sarchimor and Obatá varieties, this SHB lot reflects Aquiares' long-term approach to variety selection, traceability, and quality-focused coffee production. Fully processed at the estate's mill, the coffee undergoes mechanical depulping, washing, partial fermentation, and carefully controlled drying before specialty preparation for export.
In the cup, this coffee offers an orange-like aroma with notes of dark caramel, cacao, orange peel, and cherry. The fully washed process preserves clarity and definition, while 32 hours of controlled drying in a Guardiola dryer help achieve the moisture and consistency required for specialty export preparation. The result is a clean cup with a round body and a balanced finish.
Available in very small quantites, Entre Rios Fully Washed is a strong option for specialty coffee roasters seeking traceable Costa Rica green coffee beans prepared to rigorous export standards. A coffee shaped by careful processing, consistent quality control, and Aquiares' long-term commitment to specialty coffee production
This is unroasted coffee ready to be roasted at home or your local roastery.
Entre Rios Fully Washed represents Aquiares' approach to building coffees through thoughtful variety selection. By combining Sarchimor and Obatá, the estate brings together cultivars chosen for their agronomic performance and complementary cup potential, creating a blend that reflects years of varietal evaluation and field experience rather than a single harvest decision.
What makes this coffee even more distinctive is the production model behind it. Every lot is grown, processed, and prepared entirely at Aquiares, where complete traceability, in-house milling, and continuous quality evaluation allow the estate to monitor each stage of production. This integrated approach helps preserve consistency from harvest to export while maintaining a clear connection between the coffee and its origin.
Established in 1980, Aquiares has grown into one of Costa Rica’s largest coffee-producing estates, spanning 925 hectares in Turrialba, with more than 200 hectares preserved as protected forest. Its name, meaning “land between rivers,” reflects the close connection between coffee cultivation, the surrounding environment, and the community that has developed around the farm over generations.
Beyond coffee production, Aquiares has invested in initiatives that support long-term community wellbeing. A housing program introduced in the 1990s helped many workers become homeowners within the community, reinforcing the estate’s belief that sustainable coffee production should support both the land and the people who depend on it. Today, the farm continues combining coffee cultivation, community development, and responsible land management as part of its long-term vision for agriculture.
Aquiares benefits from elevations ranging between 800 and 1,400 meters above sea level, creating multiple microclimates across the farm. Combined with an extended rainy season and staggered flowering cycles, these conditions contribute to a long harvest period that allows careful cherry selection and supports consistency across production.
Environmental stewardship plays an important role in daily operations. Since 2015, Aquiares has measured greenhouse gas emissions and forest carbon capture through a comprehensive carbon inventory, with verified results showing carbon-neutral and carbon-negative operations. Alongside biodiversity conservation, protected forests, and responsible water management, these efforts help support a production system focused on long-term resilience and the future of coffee farming in Turrialba.
