Explore Aquiares Coffee Estate in Turrialba, Costa Rica. Sustainable coffee production, carbon-negative farming, and exceptional specialty coffees.
Aquiares was established in 1980 in Turrialba, Costa Rica, and today stands as the country's largest contiguous coffee estate. Spread across 925 hectares, including more than 200 hectares of protected forest, the farm combines coffee production, environmental conservation, and a long-established agricultural community. Its name, meaning “land between rivers,” reflects the close relationship between the landscape, the people who live there, and the farming traditions that continue to shape the region today.
For decades, Aquiares has focused on building a coffee production system centered around long-term agriculture, responsible cultivation, and community stability. Beyond coffee production, the farm has invested in initiatives that support the people connected to the land, including a housing program introduced in the 1990s that helped many workers become homeowners within the community. This long-term approach continues to shape the way coffee is cultivated, processed, and managed across the estate.
Alongside its agricultural work, Aquiares continues investing in varietal research, processing development, and regenerative farming practices. Since 2015, the farm has measured greenhouse gas emissions and forest carbon capture through a comprehensive carbon inventory, with verified results showing carbon-neutral and carbon-negative operations. Combined with biodiversity conservation, protected forests, and responsible water management, these efforts reflect Aquiares’ commitment to producing coffee with a long-term view of both environmental and community resilience.
