Unroasted India Robusta Kaapi Royale AA Screen 18 Green Coffee Beans, Washed - Retail

Robusta Washed Sc18

Grade Kaapi Royale AA

Indian Robusta has a long history in Karnataka, and this Kaapi Royale AA green coffee comes directly from Basankhan Estate in Chikmagalur, a family-run coffee estate established in 1926.. Grown and processed at the same estate, this washed Kaapi Royale Robusta is prepared as a AA screen 18, selecting larger, well developed beans for a more consistent preparation. Today the state is led by fourth-generation producer, and our friend Thouqeer Ahamed.

In the cup, expect notes of malt, nougat, and rye, with a subtle savoury character, noticeable sweetness, full body, and low acidity. The cup is deep and full-bodied, with underlying sweetness and a long finish, gaining more balance and acidity as it cools. It's a profile with plenty of weight and structure, making it particularly interesting for espresso and blends.

Available in a very small quantities. This lot is a solid option for roasters looking for Indian Robusta green coffee with consistent preparation, a large screen size, and enough character to work across different applications.

This is unroasted coffee ready to be roasted at home or your local roastery.

What is so special about this coffee?

This Kaapi Royale AA, Screen 18 is one of Basankhan Estate’s more selected Robusta preparations.. The larger beans create greater physical uniformity across the lot and distinguishes it from smaller screen selections, adding another level of control before export. For roasters, this means a more consistent starting point in the roaster and a clearer expression of the coffee’s body, sweetness, and depth.

Its origin, Chikmagalur, Karnataka,  also gives this coffee a distinctive place in the market. India has a long-established Robusta industry, however, they are not very common in the specialty coffee market. This lot shows a more selected expression of Indian Robusta ideal for roasters seeking to differentiate their menus with this versatile alternative.

Basankhan Estate: Four Generations of Coffee in Chikmagalur

Basankhan Estate was established in 1926 by Abdul Wajid, and four generations later, the same family is producing coffee. Over the past century, they have  adapted their production and processing practices to changing quality standards and markets.

Today, the estate is led by our friend Thouqeer Ahamed. Basankhan produces both Arabica and Robusta, working with the different growing conditions found across the estate to develop coffees with distinct profiles and applications.

The Land Behind Basankhan Estate Coffees

Basankhan Estate is located in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, within the Western Ghats of southern India. Chikmagalur has a long relationship with Indian coffee production, with its high elevations, seasonal rainfall, and shaded growing environments supporting both Arabica and Robusta cultivation.

Nearly a century of coffee production has given the family a close understanding of the land, seasonal rainfall, harvest cycles, and changing conditions across the estate. That knowledge has developed across generations while farming practices have continued to evolve, connecting Basankhan's long history in Chikmagalur with the way coffee is grown and managed at the estate today.
