About Basankhan Estate,

Basankhan Estate has been growing coffee in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, since 1926, when Abdul Wajid first established the estate in the Western Ghats. Nearly a century later, coffee is still grown by the same family, with Thouqeer Ahamed, the fourth generation, carrying the estate forward today.

Four generations on the same land brings a kind of knowledge that is hard to replicate. Over the years, the family has learned how coffee responds to Chikmagalur's rainfall, shade, harvest cycles, and changing seasons. The estate produces both Arabica and Robusta, working with the different growing conditions found across the property and adapting its practices to the requirements of each species. That history doesn't mean doing things the same way forever.

As India's specialty coffee industry has evolved, so has Basankhan. Farm practices, processing, and sorting have continued to improve, bringing nearly 100 years of coffee-growing experience together with a more modern approach to quality. The result is Indian green coffee with a clear connection to where it comes from and a family that has spent four generations getting to know the land behind it.

At Basankhan Estate, Arabica and Robusta have been grown side by side for generations. That experience gives the family a deep understanding of both species and how each responds to the conditions of Chikmagalur. Their Robusta is a particularly interesting part of the story, with carefully selected preparations such as Kaapi Royale showing just how much quality, sweetness, and character can be found when Robusta is given the same attention as specialty Arabica.

For coffee roasters, Basankhan also represents an origin not seen often in the specialty coffee market.
