Unroasted India Robusta Kaapi Royale A Screen 17 Green Coffee Beans, Washed - Retail

Robusta Washed Sc17

Grade Kaapi Royale A

In India, Basankhan Estate has been growing coffee in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, since 1926. Today, fourth-generation producer Thouqeer Ahamed leads the estate, where both Arabica and Robusta are grown. This washed Robusta Kaapi Royale A Screen 17 is grown and processed at the estate, bringing something different to a green coffee menu: a well-prepared Robusta from one of the country's established coffee-growing regions.

In the cup, expect notes of rye, nuts, cocoa, and a subtle smoky character, with low acidity, a full body, and a long finish. The cup is bold and savoury, with plenty of weight and intensity. The washed process helps keep the profile defined, making this Kaapi Royale particularly well suited to espresso and blends.

Available in very small quantities. This lot is a solid option for roasters looking for Indian Robusta green coffee with good structure, consistent quality, and enough character to work across different applications.

This is unroasted coffee ready to be roasted at home or your local roastery.

What is so special about this coffee?

This coffee  represents a selected preparation of Indian Robusta. Classified as Kaapi Royale A, Screen 17, with the beans sorted to a larger screen size to achieve greater physical uniformity. This selection gives roasters a more consistent starting point while still keeping the bold body and intensity that makes Robusta useful across espresso and blends.

This lot comes from Chikmagalur, Karnataka, a region with a long history of Robusta production, however, not very common in specialty coffee menus.Coming from Basankhan Estate,, this Kaapi Royale offers a closer look at the quality and diversity found within Indian Robusta beyond its more conventional commercial use.

Basankhan Estate: Four Generations of Coffee in Chikmagalur

Basankhan Estate was established in 1926 by Abdul Wajid, and four generations later, the same family is producing coffee. Over the past century, they have  adapted their production and processing practices to changing quality standards and markets.

Today, the estate is led by our friend Thouqeer Ahamed. Basankhan produces both Arabica and Robusta, working with the different growing conditions found across the estate to develop coffees with distinct profiles and applications.

The Land Behind Basankhan Estate Coffees

Basankhan Estate is located in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, within the Western Ghats of southern India. Chikmagalur has a long relationship with Indian coffee production, with its high elevations, seasonal rainfall, and shaded growing environments supporting both Arabica and Robusta cultivation.

Nearly a century of coffee production has given the family a close understanding of the land, seasonal rainfall, harvest cycles, and changing conditions across the estate. That knowledge has developed across generations while farming practices have continued to evolve, connecting Basankhan's long history in Chikmagalur with the way coffee is grown and managed at the estate today.
