About Colombia Excelso,
The story of Colombia Excelso coffee begins in the heart of Colombia’s coffee-growing regions, where coffee production has been a cornerstone of the local economy for over a century. The term "Excelso" doesn’t refer to a specific varietal but instead to the screen size of the bean and quality, symbolizing the exceptional care taken in their cultivation and processing. The screen size of Excelso is 15-16, while Supremo is a 17-18.
The word “Excelso,” comes from the Spanish word for “Excellent.” It reflects Colombia’s dedication to its past as well as producing world-class coffee. Introduced in the mid-20th century, this classification system was part of a national effort to set quality standards for export markets.
Excelso beans, grown in the high-altitude regions of Colombia, benefit from volcanic soil, consistent rainfall and the shade of native trees. These ideal growing conditions, combined with the expertise of local farmers, result in coffee that is not only rich in complexity but also a symbol of Colombia’s commitment to excellence on the global stage.
Colombia Excelso embodies the essence of Colombia’s coffee heritage, offering a vibrant and well-rounded cup. Excelso beans play a vital role in the nation’s economy: majorly contributing to Colombia’s position as third-largest coffee producer worldwide. The meticulous growing and processing methods overseen by Colombia's National Federation of Coffee Growers ensure that every bean reflects the country’s commitment to quality and sustainability, while supporting over 500,000 coffee-growing families whose livelihoods depend on this crop.
