From the Coffea Diversa garden in Biolley, Costa Rica, this Bourbon Rey micro-lot captures the bold character of a controlled washed process. Scoring 93 points, it reflects the innovation and craftsmanship that define Gonzalo Hernandez’s pioneering work at one of the most biodiverse coffee gardens in the world.
This washed coffee reveals an intense, fruit-forward profile, with notes of dried mango, lemon, and a hint of peach, complemented by a honeysuckle aroma. Its sweet, structured cup is balanced by vibrant citrus acidity, offering a medium body and a smooth, fruit-like finish. The 48-hour anaerobic fermentation enhances its complexity, adding a winey depth and a refined sweetness that lingers on the palate.
Available in 10kg bags packed in Grain-Pro for optimal freshness, this limited micro-lot is ideal for roasters seeking to showcase a rare, high-scoring Costa Rican coffee with a distinctly fruit-driven character. A standout offering from Coffea Diversa — crafted with precision, patience, and respect for the art of fermentation.
With an SCA score of 93 points, The Bourbon Rey from Costa Rica is a unique mutation of the Bourbon variety, discovered in the Coffea diversa garden. Producing giant seeds similar to Typica Mutant Maragogype and its hybrids, it offers a complex and refined flavour profile. The washed process enhances its distinct characteristics, imparting rich, fresh notes and vibrant, fruity acidity.
This results in intense flavours of dried mango, lemon, and peach, with hints of honeysuckle in the aroma. The light body and silky smooth floral finish make each sip a delightful journey, cherished by coffee connoisseurs worldwide.
Coffea diversa’s innovative and eco-friendly six-step coffee cultivation process begins by pulping cherries the same day they’re harvested, ensuring the highest quality. Their unique processing methods—Washed, Semi-Washed, and Natural—enhance the coffee’s flavour profiles, while manual selection and careful drying guarantee consistency in every batch.
For maximum freshness, the coffee is stored in a specially designed cellar made of pine logs to protect against humidity and is packed in 10kg plastic bags inside jute sacks.. This approach, combined with Gonzalo Hernandez’ commitment to sustainable practices, sets Coffea diversa apart, delivering a distinctive and exceptional coffee experience.
There is nothing similar to Coffea diversa. Like in a flower garden, where you would find many types of plants producing many different kinds of flowers, in the Coffea diversa garden, you would find many rare coffees. A unique place with the most extensive private collection of coffee in the world.
Founded in 2003 by Mr. Gonzalo Hernandez, Coffea diversa has two main gardens, one in Costa Rica and another in Guatemala. The Costa Rica garden is located in a very remote area in the Biolley district, right next to the largest nature reserve in Central America, La Amistad.
