Grade Peaberry
Lighter in body but much more complex in flavor with brighter acidity, Jamaica Blue Mountain Peaberry coffee from Clydesdale Estate offers a unique twist on the classic Grade 1 profile. Because peaberries are smaller and rounder than regular coffee beans they tend to be sweeter, denser, and more concentrated in flavour. Expect vibrant acidity, smooth texture, and layers of fruit-forward complexity in every cup.
This unique peaberry coffee is carefully packed in traditional 70kg wooden barrels lined with Grain-Pro bags to lock in the freshness. Clydesdale Estate is one of Jamaica’s oldest and most storied coffee farms, known for its high-altitude terrain, rich volcanic soil, and commitment to traditional, hands-on farming methods that prioritize quality at every stage.
What makes this coffee so special comes down to the bean itself. Most coffee cherries contain two seeds, but occasionally, a cherry produces just one round, dense bean. This natural mutation is called a peaberry. Peaberries account for a mere 5% of all coffee harvested, making them exceptionally rare. Because there’s only one bean absorbing all the nutrients and sugars from the fruit, peaberries are often described as sweeter, more vibrant, and more concentrated in flavour.
At Clydesdale Estate, these rare peaberries are grown at high elevation in the heart of the Jamaica Blue Mountains, where rich volcanic soil and cool misty conditions create the perfect environment for premium coffee. Every stage of cultivation and processing – from seedling selection to hand-picking and careful wet and dry milling –is done on-site preserving the unique character of each bean. The estate’s dedication to quality is in line with the standards upheld by JACRA (Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority), which recognizes the top producers of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.
Located in the heart of the Jamaican Blue Mountains, Founded by Dr. Colin McClarty in the late 1700s, the Clydesdale Estate was one of the first to plant coffee in this highland region. Other growers followed when they saw the excellence of the coffee produced in the Clydesdale area.
Today, the area is still renowned for the incomparable quality of its coffee beans in Jamaica. The Clydesdale region is of an elevation of 3500 to 4000 feet. Its microclimate, hot during the day and colder at night, paired with loam and volcanic soil, creates a distinctive and well-balanced cup of coffee.
Today, this region is compounded by independent small-holding coffee farmers who regroup their effort and process their green coffee beans under the Clydesdale brand.
This coffee is processed at the Blue Mountain® Coffee Factory in Kingston for maximum quality output. Clydesdale's coffee is supplied in green beans worldwide to authorized Jamaica Blue Mountain® coffee distributors.
